Welcome to our review about The First Years Ignite Stroller.  The First Years range is a great range of toddler strollers from really affordable “buggy” styles right through to the more expensive strollers for both newborn and toddler alike.  They do have one of the widest ranges of strollers out there, when compared to other brands, so there is something for everyone.

The First Years Ignite Stroller is one in their umbrella stroller range.  It is completely affordable as a lightweight stroller and has surpassed its predecessor “the Jet”.

The First Years Ignite Stroller – Product Details

This is an umbrella stroller ideal for toddlers or children from about 6 months old – it is not for newborn babies.  It is extremely lightweight (approx. 14lbs) and includes a five point harness which can be adjusted to different heights as your child grows older (in fact it will hold a child up to 50lbs which for a lightweight stroller would rival most strollers on the market).

The dimensions of this stroller (34.5 x 18.5 x 30 inches) should make it easy for most parents to easily push it around without having to bend over or find that they kick the back of the stroller whilst walking, however we would probably recommend you check this out for yourself if you are over 6 foot tall.

The wheels on this first years stroller are fairly basic and both the front and the back wheels have a locking mechanism which is more than adequate to prevent this stroller from rolling away. It probably wouldn’t make the best off road stroller but it was not really built for that anyway.

The Ignite has a few handy storage pockets (called the “parent organiser”) by the handles allowing you to store drinks or other small items in. It also has some storage space under the seat, however just be aware that access to this storage space is somewhat limited due to the design of the stroller so you are unlikely to get large bags or items in it, but it really convenient for carrying smaller items though.

The seat is really comfortable for your children but it doesn’t recline completely flat but enough for the smaller toddler to sleep without the “head slump” which is a definite good point.

It is very easy to fold down with a lever action pressed by the foot and it is light enough to be able to do this with one hand whilst the other hand is occupied, maybe holding little one.  It fits very easily in the trunk of your car leaving plenty of trunk space for others things too.

  • The storage space underneath is not that easily accessible but you can still get cool bags and bags underneath from the side.
  • There were a few grumbles about the canopy not being able to be adjusted but it is a decent size when compared to other strollers

If you initially went down the travel system route with your child then The First Years Ignite stroller would make a great second stroller, allowing you to enjoy quick trips out to the mall, without the hassle of lumping around heavy and sometimes impractical travel systems.

Everyone has different requirements and needs when it comes to strollers, but as far a lightweight strollers and practicality goes The First Years Ignite stroller is definitely worth considering, especially for the price.
